Arlington police are looking for man who they say shot and killed the father of his girlfriend’s two children after the ex-boyfriend came to visit them on Thanksgiving.
The shooting occurred at around 1:15 p.m. at an apartment complex off Lamar Boulevard. Police arrived on the scene soon after to find the victim already dead.
Authorities haven’t released the identity of the victim, other than to say that he is in his early 20s. Sgt. Christopher Cook said investigators know the identity of the suspect, but didn’t want to release that information while officers are still looking for him.
Cook said a large group of family members was at the apartment when the shooting occurred. The victim entered to see his two children and got in a verbal fight with the mother’s new boyfriend, Cook said. Family intervened and “got the victim to go outside,” Cook said, but the new boyfriend grabbed a gun and followed him out.
The suspect then shot the victim multiple times outside the building, Cook said.
“It is just really unfortunate because, being Thanksgiving, there was a lot of people there,” Cook said. “There was a lot of family members and witnesses at this time.”
Witnesses told police that the suspect fled the scene in the car with the weapon. Cook said officers have spread out across North Texas checking places where he might have gone.
“There are a lot of possibilities,” he said.
