Outdoor dining approved for Hobart downtown restaurant

The owner of a Caribbean cuisine restaurant scheduled to open at 326 Main St. in June received permission from the Hobart Park Board to have an outdoor dining area by Lake George, a move Mayor Brian Snedecor called “an exciting new beginning for the lakefront.

“This uses our lakefront as an attraction, which we feel puts us front and center,” Snedecor told the park board at its regular meeting on Monday.

Owner Teddian Jackson said he wants to place about four tables plus chairs in a fenced-in area along the lakefront behind his Montego Bay Grille restaurant. He said the fencing would be iron and the furniture either metal or wood.

Jackson said he’d like to operate the outdoor dining area as long as the weather allows. He said the fencing and furniture are portable, but didn’t know if he would take them down every night after use.
