JANESVILLEA former Rock County jailer stands indicted of hidden valuables from a jail inmate, a sheriff’s bureau announced Tuesday.

Mitchell Wellnitz, 21, of Janesville was requisitioned during a jail Monday and was expelled with an initial justice date of Aug. 28, pronounced jail Cmdr. Erik Chellevold.

The valuables is a bullion necklace that was trustworthy to a ring that has diamonds in it, Chellevold said.

The jewelry, with an estimated value of $2,900, belongs to a Janesville man, Chellevold said.

Inmates’ valuables are kept in a storage room, and that’s where investigators trust Wellnitz took it from, Chellevold said.

The sheriff’s bureau non-stop a review Friday, according to a news release.

The burglary was detected when a owners was being expelled from a jail, Chellevold said.

Wellnitz was hired Mar 6. The news recover lists his pretension as probationary correctional officer. He is suspected of committing a crime Jun 2 or 3, Chellevold said.

Wellnitz was arrested on dual transgression charges: burglary and bungle in open office, though a district attorney’s bureau will establish a charges Wellnitz will face in court.
