Syracuse Dining Weeks: See some of the menus for 2017

SYRACUSE, NY – Max Chutinthranond calls Chicken Prig Pow “the perfect dish” to use as a showcase for his Lemon Grass restaurant during the upcoming Downtown Dining Weeks. 

Some of the dishes to be featured during Syracuse Downtown Dining Weeks at the Lemon Grass restaurant in Armory Square. 

It’s chicken (or you can substitute tofu for a vegetarian version), cooked with roasted chili jam, garlic, Italian long peppers and cinnamon basil. “Everyone likes this dish,” Chutinthranond says.

Downtown Dining Weeks, which runs this year from Feb. 15 to March 1, is a promotion that lures people to eat out during what otherwise might be a slow winter period between Valentine’s Day and the arrival of spring. This year, a record 32 restaurants are offering the Dining Weeks deal of a three-course meal for $25 or less. “It brings a new clinetele to the restaurant, and they can see what we do and not worry about spending a lot of money,” Chutinthranond said.

At the Lemon Grass, 238 W. Jefferson St., which specializes in Thai and other Pacific Rim cuisine, the courses include starters like House Spring Rolls and Shrimp Dumplings; a salad course of mixed bitter greens;  and a choice from eight entrees, including Gang Gai, a chicken curry;  Braised Pork Panang Curry; Roasted Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes; and Swordfish, with either chili sauce or a “Bistro” sauce. The York, 247 W. Fayette St.: Start with beet salad, chopped salad or soup, then a choice of naan flatbread with various toppings, and a choice of entrees:  Peruvian Charred Chicken with dirty rice and andouille sausage; Pork Shank with porcini mushrooms, prsciutto and mashed potatoes, or Goulash, with ground beef, pork and Italian sausage over pasta. Full menu.

Maxwell’s, 122 E. Genesee St. (Hanover Square): Start with soup or salad, then try second course choices like Thai Shrimp; Arancini (Italian risotto balls); Calamari; marinated artichoke or greens; then the entree choices of Short Rib; Salmon, Fiery Shrimp; Pappardelle, Sausage or Rigatoni. Full menu.

Pastabilities, 311 S. Franklin St.: Start with Pasta’s famous stretch bread and Spicy Hot Tomato Oil; choose soup, salads, Meatball Sliders or Garlic Stretch Bread; and select from several pasta options, including Fettucine Alfredo; Broccoli, Walnuts and Garlic; Bolognese Meat Sauce; Meatball Bake; Cheese Ravioli or Chicken Parmesan, plus dessert. Full menu.

This year, several downtown hotels are offering a special Dining Weeks promotion package.  And there will be discounted parking from Sunday to Thursday during the Dining Week period at several locations — fees will be $5 after 5 p.m. The discount will be available at the Atrium Garage, Clinton Street Garage, the lot at Fayette and Walton Streets and the lot at  Fayette and Clinton Streets.
